Just a quick update for now

Partly, this is to test if the comment system that I installed (Intense Debates, which is the same one I use on Sanity's Overrated) is working here as well.  Part of it is to do a quick and dirty update.  I'll do a more thorough one later, since Teddy's been pretty patiently waiting for the computer.

Some of my goals so far this week I've hit perfectly.  I've been eating fresh fruit every day (I really do love Cuties) and I got some exercise in yesterday.  I've been drinking 8 glasses of water a day, thanks to my big-ass jug (gotta take a picture to post here, 'cause I love this thing).  I've been writing down a positive thought almost daily and I've been following FlyLady every day.  Maybe not following her perfectly, but following her a bit.

Then there are the ones that I haven't been quite as good at.... things like crafting.  I did do some last night, getting my Scratch Pad ready to go in the mail.  But I haven't done anything else.  I still have a couple days to work on things, though.

One of the things I'm going to do a bit later (I think) is write out a list of the once-a-weeks that I haven't gotten to yet so I can see what I need to do over the weekend.  (Number one on the list is call Mom, Dad & Deni.)  I've had a few rough times over the last couple of days, days where depression has been getting the better of me.  But at this moment, I'm feeling a lot better than I had been.  So this is all to the good.

Updates from the last few days

The last couple of days have been busy.  Some productive, others... not so much.  But it's a process, just like everything else in life.  So I'm still feeling good about my challenge.  I've had far more good moments than bad.

One of the good things is... I actually was able to cross one thing off of my list. Number 5, actually. I bought a (fairly) good pedometer.

I've used the pro-form pedometers before and really liked them.  The only problem that I'm running into is that I have a tendency to bump it against things and resetting it.  I'm still trying to find a work around for that, but when I start walking again, it should be fine for measuring steps and distance, as well as to make sure that my pulse isn't too high.  I also like the fact that it has a flashlight on it.  Definitely helps if I'm walking somewhere at night.

Now for the rest...

I've been pretty good about cutting down my computer time (11).  I've spent more time off the computer than I have on it, for the most part.  I need to find a program or app or something that will actually track how long I'm online so I can get a better idea of how much time I'm actually spending there.

Number 12, Eat one fresh fruit or vegetable a day, as been pretty easy.  We've been buying a lot of Cuties and I LOVED them.  It's been so much easier to do this one while Cuties are in season.

Exercising (13) hasn't happened yet today, but I'm hoping to do so tonight once the kids are in bed.  I did a large amount of cleaning today, so I have the room in the living room to do my pilates.

I did update SparkPeople one day (14) but I haven't updated since then.  I've got to start that back up sooner or later.  I'm hoping to start tonight, especially since I have an app on my Kindle for it.

I've been good at at least taking the pictures for number 41 (taking pictures every day for a year).  I posted the first four today as part of Wordless Wednesday at Sanity's Overrated.  I've gotten some cute pics.  At least, I think so.

Since I have my meds in my weekly container, I've been able to keep up with my vitamins (42).  I'm hoping that will make me feel better in the long run.

I haven't been very good on the positive thing a day (44) or the writing fiction (45).  I'm on hiatus from my games, so that takes me out of even that regular writing.  I did buy some composition books today and I'm hoping to turn one into a Fiction Book.

I've been doing pretty good with FlyLady (85), putting in at least 15 minutes a day.  I don't always do the challenges, but I'm trying to keep up with the tenets of the system.

Swaps have been going well.  I've managed to rate each one that's come in within one day rather than the two I have as my goal (92).

And my blogs... I've updated each one twice this week so far.  Just one more for each to meet my goal.

So I'm working on it.  I'm trying hard to keep up with the things that I need to and, more importantly, not beat myself up when I don't hit a goal on a specific day.  It isn't about absolutes.  It's about trends.  And the more used to doing things that I get, the more likely it will be that these will turn into life changes. Because, for me, that's what all of this is about.

Day 1 Update

Since I have several items on my 101 list that are daily items, I'm hoping to update this blog every day to help keep track of what I am and what I'm not doing.  The updates will (hopefully) come in the morning every day, talking about the day before.

So... this entry is to talk about yesterday, January 1, 2012, the first day of the challenge.  Below are the list items that I've worked on.

1. Average 7500 steps a day - It's hard to say if I met this goal yesterday, as I still don't have the pedometer with which to accurately measure my steps.  But based on my activity level yesterday, I don't think I made it.

11. Cut computer time down to 4 hours a day - This one didn't even come close to happening yesterday.  I think I was on the computer for about 6 hours total.  In part, this is because I was trying to update several things and get caught up with swaps.  Today will be better.

12. Eat at least one fresh fruit or vegetable a day - This one I managed to do without trouble.  I had two Cuties (clementine oranges) as snacks yesterday.

14. Get back on SparkPeople and update daily - Thanks to an app for my Kindle, I was able to do this one last night.

41. Take and post one photograph a day for one year - I half completed this one. I did take the picture, but hadn't had a chance to download them from the camera and then upload it to Sanity's Overrated or Facebook. Today, I'm hoping to take a picture of the kids at Chuck E Cheese.

42. Take daily vitamins every day - Got this one.  Along with the rest of my meds last night.

44. Write down at least one positive thing a day - I did.  I wrote it in one of the swaps that I'm doing. The positive thought is this: "There is very little in this world as good as two tiny arms slipping around your neck and a small voice piping up, 'Mommy, you is my bes' fwen.'"

45. Write fiction every day (game posts count) - I didn't even attempt this one yesterday.  I will, however, try to get some writing done today.

63. Play all the games on the game shelves at least once - Yesterday, Rich and I sat down and played Settlers of Catan with Teddy.  One game down!

84. Fill pill minder every Sunday - Done.  Good way of keeping track of what meds I need to refill too.

85. Follow FlyLady for one month - Good start on it, following it yesterday.  Today, I need to take a look at my launch pad to see which challenge is there for me and for the boys, along with working my 15 minutes in.

92. Rate swaps within two days of receipt - I spent a portion of yesterday taking care of the backlog of ratings that I needed to do, including rating a swap that I received on Saturday.  So it's a good start.

96. Update blogs three times a week - All three have been updated once this week so far.

Not a bad start for 2012.

Along with my daily goals, I'm going to start working on my ongoing/one time goals as well.  This week, I will try to work on the following:

5. Buy a good pedometer
10. Create quote notebook for quotes I find interesting
43. Write at least two paper letters a month (since I owe my penpal a letter)
69. Start writing down memories to share with the boys later
76. Brainstorm on my 101 blog was to make my 101 in 1,001 work
94. Set up a daily routine and organizing system for the house

This, of course, isn't counting the one or three times a week things that I want to do.  Those will come as the week progresses.

The hard thing for me, as I was just looking at my list, was to remind myself that this is a marathon, not a sprint.  Yes, I need to catalog my media. Yes, I need to clean out the filing cabinet. Yes, I need to work on emptying the boxes.  But none of those need to happen today.  I have 1,000 days left to work on those.
